Specific compounds
Specific compounds customized for each application
At Artech we offer customized specific compounds that meet the most stringent requirements and standards. Whether you are looking for compounds with improved mechanical properties, food-safe materials, or solutions for extreme conditions, we have the expertise and resources to help you.
What are specific compounds?
Specific compounds are designed and adapted to a specific set of properties or requirements:
Material requirements: Such as strength, stiffness, compression set and friction resistance.
Specific conditions: Improved temperature or chemical resistance.
Standards and certificates: Such as FDA, EC 1935/2004, KIWA, WRAS, USP Class VI, drinking water, gas and other national and international standards.
Combinations: Rubber combined with metal or plastic for optimum adhesion.
With our specially designed compounds we serve various industries, from the food and pharmaceutical industry to oil and gas extraction.
Examples of our specific compounds:
- FFKM
- PFAS-free alternatives for (F)FKM
- Food safe applications
- Drinking water applications
- Medical applications
- High pressure applications (RGD, explosive decompression)
- BAM certified applications in oxygen-rich environments
- Wear-resistant and oil-resistant applications
Below you will find further explanation and some examples of our specific compounds and their applications.

1. FFKM Compounds (Perfluor)
FFKM is the most chemically inert rubber grade with the highest thermal resistance. These compounds are ideal for applications in extreme chemical and thermal environments.
Properties of FFKM
- Thermal resistance: Suitable up to +320°C, depending on type.
- Chemical inertness: Resistant to almost all aggressive chemicals.
- Gas impermeabilioty and ageing resistance: Ideal for long-term applications.
Applications of FFKM
- Chemical and petrochemical industry.
- Pharmaceutical and medical equipment.
- Seals in high temperature applications.
What makes Artech’s FFKM compounds unique?
- Customisation: In addition to standard O-rings, we offer products such as gaskets, seals and membranes. Because we work with our own FFKM compounds, we are able to make any rubber moulded product you need. This is in contrast to Kalrez®, which only supplies a fixed range of products.
- Own production: Our production in the Netherlands results in fast delivery and competitive prices.
- Adhesion: FFKM can be bonded to metal or plastic for extra functionality.
Examples of our FFKM-compounds:
- FFKM 75: Artech Compound Code CC6575 – Alternative for Kalrez® 6230 and 6375.
- FFKM 90: Artech Compound Code CC6590 – Alternative for Kalrez® 3018 and 7375.
2. PFAS-free alternatives
PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are increasingly regulated. Artech has developed several PFAS-free alternatives that comply with REACH and POP guidelines.
Compounds with approved properties:
- Thermal resistance up to 170°C: Artech Compound Code CC4098.
- Chemical resistance: Artech Compound Code CC9084.
3. Food safe compounds
Rubber products that come into contact with food must meet strict requirements such as FDA, BfR, EC 1935/2004 and the Dutch Commodities Act.
What compounds can Artech offer you?
We offer a wide range of food grade compounds, including NR, SBR, EPDM, NBR, HNBR, VMQ (silicone),.FKM and FFKM. Our compounds are available in various hardnesses and colours, such as blue, white, black and red/brown.
Examples of our food safe compounds:
- NO. 45 (blue): Artech Compound Code CC9008.
- NO. 55 (blue): Artech Compound Code CC2058.
- SBR 60 (white): Artech Compound Code CC2060.
- EPDM 50 (white): Artech Compound Code CC1030.
- EPDM 60 (black): Artech Compound Code CC1040.
- EPDM 70 (black): Artech Compound Code CC1068 and CC1077.
- NBR 45 (white): Artech Compound Code CC4025.
- NBR 50 (white): Artech Compound Code CC4027.
- NBR 60 (black): Artech Compound Code CC4040.
- NBR 70 (blue): Artech Compound Code CC4035.
- NBR 70 (white): Artech Compound Code CC4076.
- HNBR 70 (black): Artech Compound Code CC4090.
- FKM 70 (white): Artech Compound Code CC5069.
- FKM 70 (green): Artech Compound Code CC5070.
- FKM 70 (black): Artech Compound Code CC5073.
- FFKM 75 (black): Artech Compound Code CC6575.
- VMQ 70 (blue): Artech Compound Code CC3010.
- VMQ 70 (red/brown): Artech Compound Code CC3077.
4. Drinking water applications
Rubber products for drinking water must meet standards such as KIWA, WRAS, and ACS. Our compounds are specially designed not to affect the taste, odor or composition of the water.
Compounds with KIWA-approval:
- EPDM 70 (sulphur vulcanised): Artech Compound Code CC1171.
- EPDM 70 (peroxide vulcanised): Artech Compound Code CC1077.
5. Medical and pharmaceutical applications
Rubber compounds for medical applications must meet USP Class VI standards. These compounds are biocompatible and are tested for toxicity and migration.
Examples of our medical compounds:
- EPDM 70: Artech Compound Code CC1077.
- FKM 70: Artech Compound Code CC5190.
- FFKM 75: Artech Compound Code CC6575 – Alternative for Kalrez® 6230.
6. Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD) or Explosive Decompression (ED)
Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD) or Explosive decompression (ED) occurs when gases in rubber explode under a sudden pressure drop. Our AED (Anti-Explosive Decompression) compounds are specifically designed to prevent this.
Examples of our RGD compounds:
- HNBR 90: Artech Compound Code CC4096.
- FKM 90: Artech Compound Code CC7545.
- FFKM 90: Artech Compound Code CC7091.
7. BAM certified
Artech has its own FKM compound, certified by BAM as approved for applications as sealing in oxygen-rich environments. The compound is approved for applications up to 60°C and an oxygen pressure of 40 bar.
- FKM 70: Artech Compound Code CC5094.
8. Wear-resistant and oil-resistant applications
Our NBR and HNBR compounds are ideal for oil applications up to 100°C and 150°C respectively. For higher wear resistance we combine oil resistance with improved mechanical properties.
Examples of our compounds:
- NBR: Artech Compound Code CC4066 – Suitable up to 100°C.
- HNBR: Artech Compound Code CC4100 – Suitable up to 150°C.
- In addition, we have developed a special compound that combines extremely good wear resistance with oil resistance: Artech Compound Code CC4100 – Suitable up to 125°C.
